W.T.T.L. 2003 AGM

The 2003 Annual General Meeting of the W.T.T.L. took place on Thursday 5th. June and was chaired by its’ president, Colin Mapp.

Being founded in 1932, this meeting was the culmination of our 70th. Year, an anniversary which had been celebrated with a dinner at The Holt Fleet restaurant on 2nd. May that had been well supported, particularly by players no longer playing in the league.

Current chairman, Doug Young, was able to report on the past season with some optimism for the future. New coaching officer, Lewis Siket, was bringing many youngsters into the sport which can only be good for the long term future of the league and will hopefully reverse the downward trend in the number of participating teams which has been noticeable over recent seasons.

On a more general note, it was reported that anybody wishing to take up the sport was welcome to come along to the YMCA in Henwick Road on a Thursday evening for a knock up and to get to know other players.

The treasurer, Judy Birbeck, reported a financial loss but this was largely due to the hire of premises for coaching sessions and the committee had decided was no reason for any immediate remedial action.

There will be a couple of new faces on next season’s committee. Stuart Richardson has moved home from the midlands to be near the sea at Tenby and in recognition of his 30 years service was elected a life member of the league. His position as division one secretary is taken by Janet Hunt and as handicap k.o. secretary by Dave Watton.
